Area guide: Families with kids

Our tips for a family vacation around Kouklia, Secret Valley and Paphos

Secret Valley makes a calm base for a family vacation: your own pool and garden, the Aphrodite Hills resort 5 minutes away, and beaches and water parks a short drive away. Here are the family-friendly highlights from our area guide, plus a few extra ideas.

At the villas

• Guests: up to six in each villa, plus up to three infants in travel cribs (please ask before booking with more than one infant). There are no extra beds or sofa beds.
• Baby equipment: travel cribs and high chairs on request – tell us before you arrive and we’ll have them ready.
• Layouts: Villa Pleiades and Villa Panorama are on one level; at Villa Pontus, the bedrooms are upstairs. For bigger groups, Pleiades and Panorama are next door to each other, and Pontus is a two-minute walk away.
• Pool and hot tub: each villa has a private pool with steps for easy access, and a six-person hot tub. Unheated, the pool is usually warm enough by late May; heating is an optional extra in winter and spring. House rule: children in the hot tub only with an adult, for up to 15 minutes at a time.
• Around the pool: no glass or porcelain – there’s plastic tableware. We don’t provide inflatables, but earlier guests often leave some behind (we don’t check them for leaks).
• Books and games: all three villas have children’s books and board games, and Villa Panorama also has toys.

As anywhere, always keep an eye on children around the pool and hot tub.

Water parks

Opening days and hours change through the season, so check before you go. More on our activities page.

• Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark – our pick of the big parks, with a kids’ pool and kids’ area. Its 2026 timetable runs from April to early November. Busy in high season; no outside food or drink.
• Fasouri Watermania (edge of Limassol) – similar in size, with a big knee-deep interactive pool for children. Open roughly May to mid-October, with fewer opening days at each end. Children under 12 must come with an adult.
• Splash Waterpark (Chloraka) – smaller and usually uncrowded, with a kids’ pool with slides and a toddler area. Open to day visitors; check dates before you go.

Mini golf, go-karts and jeep tours

• Island Cove Adventure Mini Golf (Geroskipou) – a well-maintained 18-hole course at a medium challenge level.
• Marios Golf Park (Chloraka) – simple 9-hole mini golf for younger children, plus foot golf, which is great fun as a group.
• Coral Bay Karting Center – a well-maintained track; ask about age and height limits for children.
• Jimmy’s Jeep Adventures – guided tours to the Troodos Mountains and the Akamas; ask about children when you book.

Sports, riding and pampering

The Aphrodite Hills resort next door has plenty for children (though its Children’s Club is only for hotel guests).

• Dream Team Soccer School – groups for ages 3 to 16, plus private coaching. The full program runs in UK school holidays; inquire well in advance.
• The Racket Club – tennis and padel lessons and junior programs; court rental includes rackets and balls.
• Aphrodite Hills Riding Club – lessons for children, one-hour taster trail rides, and Penny the Shetland pony for young children (age and height limits apply).
• The Retreat Spa – “Pamper Spa” treatments for children aged 8–15; the Mother & Child Pamper Package is the most popular.

Beaches for little ones

Lifeguards are on duty at the Paphos region’s Blue Flag beaches from mid-April to the end of October. Our family favorites (more on our beaches page):

• Pissouri Beach – our favorite: a well-protected bay with a lifeguard, and pedal boats and kayaks to rent from Xenios Water Sports.
• Yeroskipou Municipal Beach (Rikkos) – wave breakers keep the water calm and shallow, and there’s a lifeguard and a children’s playground.
• Coral Bay – sand and a gently sloping entrance into the water, with a lifeguard, but it gets very busy.
• Mandria Beach – the closest beach with a lifeguard in season, with a beach bar.

Aphrodite’s Rock, 10 minutes away, is worth a visit, but it has no lifeguard – swim at one of the beaches above instead.

Days out

Kato Pafos Archaeological Park (for older kids) – Roman mosaic floors showing scenes from Greek mythology. From mid-April to mid-September it’s open until 7:30 pm, so go in the late afternoon, allow two hours and bring plenty of water. See museums and historic sites.

The Troodos Mountains in summer – temperatures drop as you climb into the pine forests. It’s about an hour’s drive (approximate), so make a day of it with a forest walk or a jeep tour.

Evenings in Kouklia

In the warmer months, Kouklia’s main square, 7 minutes from the villas, is closed to traffic in the evenings, so little ones can run about while you eat at Efraim Taverna (closed Wednesdays). In high season there’s a traditional show on the square every Thursday (“Cyprus Night”), when it gets busy.

Practical tips

• Heat in July and August: daytime highs on the coast average around 30°C, and heatwaves can push temperatures close to 40°C. The Cyprus health ministry advises avoiding direct sun from 11 am to 5 pm, drinking plenty of water, and never leaving children in a parked car. Plan outings for mornings and late afternoons.
• Choosing a beach: for small children, pick one with a lifeguard and calm water, such as Yeroskipou or Pissouri, and bring water shoes.
• Car seats: child restraints are mandatory in Cyprus. Police guidance is a child car seat up to 135 cm tall and a booster seat from 135 to 150 cm, and a rear-facing seat must never go in a front seat with an active airbag. Reserve seats when you book your rental car, or bring your own.
